Professional Summary

I’ve worked as a Senior Software Engineer primarily developing software for scientific instrumentation for the last 20 years.  This has been very interesting work because of the variety of tasks that are entailed.  Design work is often the result of consultation with knowledgeable application scientists.  Implementation is done with overall system performance and maintenance in mind.  After the product is shipped, support and training of field service engineers occupies a great deal of time.
Teamwork is a vital aspect of great software development.

Employment history

Senior Software Engineer, Towne Group. Faheybury, South Dakota
Apr. 2005 – Jun. 2017
I spent the vast majority of my time with Thermo working on the PathFinder (previously Noran System Six) line of microanalysis software.  This software, in connection with various custom hardware, was used to acquire and process data from electron microscopes.  Over the years, I worked on many facets of the software, but my primary area of expertise was the layer which was responsible for communication with hardware, both our custom hardware and the various electron microscopes with which we interfaced.

Windows applications were created in the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment using C, C++, MFC, COM, ATL and a small amount of C#.

Software Engineer, Torp, Cummerata and Schoen. South Bertrambury, Tennessee
Jan. 1991 – Feb. 1999
At Persoft I worked on the SmarTerm line of terminal emulation software.  Initially, this was done under the DOS OS, but later development moved to the Window OS.  Duties consisted of design and implementation of user interfaces, communication subsystems, low-level keyboard handling, etc.
